March 2026 Newsletter
March was a vibrant and meaningful month at North Lewis as we proudly celebrated the Month of the Francophonie. Throughout the month, our students, teachers, and families came together to honor the French language and the rich cultures of the Francophone world. From daily activities to special events, it was a wonderful time of learning, sharing, and community spirit.
Francophonie Week
During Francophonie Week, North Lewis embraced French Immersion every day. Each morning began with a special introduction highlighting our French Immersion teachers, helping students learn more about the people who guide them in their bilingual journey. It was a great way to celebrate our program and build connections across the school.
What to learn more about our Francophone Team?
What is Francophonie?
The Francophonie refers to the global community of people and countries that share the French language. It celebrates not only the language but also the diverse cultures, traditions, and histories connected to French-speaking communities around the world.
When is it celebrated?
The Month of the Francophonie is celebrated every March, with a special day on March 20, known as the International Day of La Francophonie.
Why do we celebrate it?
Francophonie is celebrated to promote the French language, encourage cultural diversity, and highlight the importance of learning and connecting through multiple languages. It’s a time to appreciate the richness of French-speaking cultures across the globe.

Francophonie Night

The warm and lively atmosphere made it a truly memorable celebration.
Partner class run
The NLE partner class program continues to foster meaningful connections across different grade levels! Recently, Mme Brigitte’s kindergarten class met with Mme Émilie’s 3rd-grade and special education class for a running session.
During this special time, the older students guided and supported their younger partners in fun activities, helping to build both confidence and friendships. It’s always wonderful to witness the growth of collaboration, kindness, and leadership within our French Immersion community!
3rd Grade Agriculture Adventure Day
Our 3rd grade students enjoyed a hands-on learning experience at Agriculture Adventure Day. They explored different aspects of agriculture in our state, gaining a better understanding of farming, animals, and the importance of agriculture in Louisiana.
Songs, Stories, and Smiles with Johnette Downing
NLE were delighted to welcome Johnette Downing to the school, where she spent a joyful time singing and reading stories, such as "My Parrain is The Loup Garou," and “Today Is Monday in Louisiana” to our Pre-K through 2nd-grade students. Her lively performance brought smiles, laughter, and plenty of participation from the children, who eagerly joined in the fun. Even the teachers couldn’t resist getting involved, making it a truly special moment shared by our entire school community. Thank you to NLE librarian, Ms. Sarah, for organizing this wonderful event.
Johnette Downing is an award-winning children’s author, singer, and songwriter from Louisiana, often known as the “Musical Ambassador to Children.” She is celebrated for her engaging performances that blend music, storytelling, and cultural traditions, especially those rooted in Louisiana’s rich heritage.
