May 2026 Newsletter

What a month to celebrate! May has been filled with joy, learning, and unforgettable memories for our NLE community. From exciting field trips to well-deserved celebrations, our students and staff have wrapped up this school year in the most beautiful way. As we reflect on everything accomplished this year, we are proud of each and every student, grateful for our dedicated teachers, and excited for what lies ahead. Thank you for your continued support of French immersion education at NLE. We hope you enjoy this final newsletter of the school year!

Fun Day at NLE

To celebrate the end of LEAP Testing and the arrival of summer, NLE hosted its beloved Traditional Fun Day — and it did not disappoint! Students across all grades enjoyed a well-deserved day of games, laughter, and outdoor fun. After weeks of hard work and dedication during testing season, it was the perfect way to let loose and celebrate. Smiles were everywhere, and the energy on campus was absolutely electric. A huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make this day so special for our kids!

K–2 Field Trip to Longfellow Evangeline Historic State Park

Our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students had a wonderful and enriching experience visiting Longfellow Evangeline Historic State Park, where they discovered the rich French heritage and Acadian culture that is so deeply woven into the fabric of Louisiana. The trip brought history to life in the most engaging way, sparking curiosity and pride in our young learners. A heartfelt thank you to Les Amis and La Fondation Louisiane for sponsoring this incredible field trip and making it possible for our students to connect with their cultural roots.

Beta Club at the Astros Game!

Our Beta Club students took their school spirit all the way to the ballpark for an Astros game — and let's just say, they made their presence known! The group cheered so loudly and with such enthusiasm that they were spotted on the stadium's TV broadcast! It was a fantastic outing, full of team spirit, great memories, and more than a few hot dogs. Way to represent NLE, Beta students — you truly showed up and showed out!

End-of-Year Awards Ceremonies

NLE celebrated its students with heartfelt End-of-Year Awards Ceremonies for Kindergarten through 6th grade. It was a season of recognition, pride, and — for more than a few — happy tears. A very special moment was reserved for our 6th graders, who will be moving on to middle school next year. This milestone marks the end of an incredible chapter in their French immersion journey, and the emotion in the room was a true testament to the bonds and memories built here at NLE. Congratulations to all award recipients, and best of luck to our 6th-grade graduates — we could not be more proud of you!

Au Revoir, and Thank You

This month, we bid a loving farewell to three extraordinary teachers who have each left a lasting mark on our NLE family.

To Madame Brigitte, Ms. Camille, and Ms. Hannah — NLE will miss y'all.

Ms. Hannah - 6th, 7th, 8th

She decided to move on to another school. Through her involvement on the Les Amis Board, she worked to improve French immersion education at the middle school level, advocating for more French instruction for older students. Thank you for all you’ve done at NLE and BPMS.

Madame Brigitte - Kindergarten

She concludes an impressive 6 years of service at NLE and an astounding 25+ years of dedication to French immersion education in Louisiana. She has now decided to retire and return to her home country — a well-earned rest after a lifetime of passionate, meaningful work. Madame Brigitte, your impact on this community and on the children of Louisiana will never be forgotten. Enjoy every moment of your retirement — you deserve it more than anyone!

Ms Camille - 5th

After one wonderful year at NLE, has decided to return to her home country. She embraced Louisiana life wholeheartedly and poured her heart into her students every single day. NLE and Les Amis are deeply grateful for her commitment and everything she brought to our classrooms and community this year. Ms. Camille, thank you for sharing your talent and warmth with us!

And on an exciting note: French immersion at NLE is preparing to welcome 3 new teachers to its team for the coming school year.

Until Next Year!

As we close the chapter on the 2025–2026 school year, we want to express our deepest gratitude to every student, family, teacher, and supporter who made this year truly memorable. The best, however, is yet to come! Les Amis is already hard at work preparing for an exciting year ahead, with a renewed commitment to improving communication, strengthening our visibility, and actively promoting the French language throughout the New Iberia community. We believe in the power of French immersion education and in the incredible community that surrounds it — and we cannot wait to share what we have in store. Enjoy your summer and rest well! À la prochaine!
